“I have never seen a depiction of grief as deft, daring, amusing and moving as this one. An extraordinary debut.”

THE TIMES

“The show tries to find a way to say what cannot be spoken"

LYN GARDENER, GUARDIAN

A true story about love and loss

Hannah has always wanted to talk about her Dad. But in the seven years since he died, she hasn't quite managed it.

Not one to be defeated, she’s enlisted her friend David to help her on a journey through memory, laughter and sorrow, to finally come to terms with losing her dad.

Frank, funny and endlessly inventive, So It Goes explores the light and dark sides of grief in a playful and deeply personal show.

STORY BEHIND THE SHOW

In August 2012, Hannah told David that she wanted to make a show about her dad, who died when she was seventeen. We started work on So It Goes almost immediately. It became a show about how we respond to grief and how hard it is to talk about death.

When we opened So It Goes at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2014, The Independent called it “one of this year’s breakthrough shows”. It played to sell out audiences, receiving a five star review in The Times and four star reviews in The Telegraph, Scotsman, Evening Standard and Independent.

So It Goes has toured all over the UK and received a second five star review in The Times during its sell out run at London's Shoreditch Town Hall.  It returned to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015 for the British Council's Edinburgh Showcase.

In 2016, we performed the show at Shanghai Contemporary Theatre Festival in China. David and Hannah also spent three weeks in Batumi, Georgia recreating the show in a new Georgian-language production, commissioned by the British Council, with two Georgian actors.
